The David Dudley Philosophy

Having spent his early life being influenced by the culture of East and Central Africa David returned to England at 19 to further his academic studies in Southampton – his birthplace. His love of sport resulted in him playing Rugby for his college, having a County Trial and playing for NatWest Bank where he started his banking career and ending up in the City with a merchant bank. During this time he developed his love of singing, first as an amateur and then professionally taking leading roles in musical shows and cabaret.

At 30 he left the banking world for a more artistic life in jewellery down in Cornwall, taking with him his wife and newly born son Nicholas. His interest in design grew and after further study and experience opened his first shop in Truro. Four years later he moved to Marlborough, where he has been for 18 years. Just to keep it in the family his daughter, Laura, obtained a degree in Jewellery, Art and Design.

Contemporary design is his passion, but David still has an appreciation for the skills needed for fine and traditional designs, giving talks on this subject. Still singing in charity concerts he has also climbed Kilimanjaro, done a trek to base camp of Everest, and a trek over the Andes to Machu Picchu raising over £45,000 for good causes with the support of his friends and many customers.

In supporting his town he has been a Rotarian, chairman of the very successful Christmas Victorian Evenings, the Lights committee and other events. He remarried in November 2008 and is also a very proud grandfather. When asked if he would ever retire he replied “Never – I enjoy my love of jewellery too much and also my love of life”.
